Wedding Trends for 2025

Updated: Feb 11

What better way to spend a rainy, February afternoon than pouring over wedding content and calling it ‘work’? I’ve been scouring the internet, reading articles and spotting the wedding trends that are supposed to be on the cards this year. Here’s a few that kept cropping up, suggesting that they really are going to be all the rage in the coming months.

Bold colour

Over the last few years, paired back colour palettes have been all the rage. Soft pastels have been popular choices for bridesmaid dresses and subtle floral arrangements have seen neutrals and greenery dominating. However, it seems that bold colours are back for 2025! As I scrolled away through online articles and Pinterest boards, reds and browns seemed to be taking centre stage, along with the repeated reference to ‘Verona sunset’. This incudes soft pinks, oranges and yellows, working together to create a warm and romantic tone. The reference to Verona itself is certainly romantic too. What could be better than a summer sunset over the rooftops of one of Italy’s most famous locations?

Interactive experiences and entertainment

This one was a less surprising find. Increasingly, my Instagram feed has been filled with reels and posts that champion providing an interactive experience for guests. One that has been gaining traction for a few years already is live painting, with couples hiring artists to capture a key moment (often the first dance) on canvas. Similarly, whilst not always for weddings, I have seen a lot of events including live illustrations of the guests themselves. Rather than caricatures, these tend to be stylised portraits, which capture the essence of the guest in a flattering way that makes for a great keepsake. It’s also becoming increasingly common for couples to have wedding QR codes for photos, allowing their guests to share their own experience of the day. I love that this provides so many more perspectives and the possibility for candid shots that might otherwise be missed.

Unique venues

This one was music to my ears as an independent celebrant! It seems that couples are becoming increasingly creative in their attempt to plan a wedding that’s unique and unexpected. As a child, I remember watching ‘The Vow’ and thinking how romantic it would be to get married in an art gallery like the characters played by Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. And now, this seems to be happening with increasing frequency. Art galleries, libraries, restaurants, train stations… contemporary couples no longer feel bound by the constraints of tradition. They would rather reduce their guest list to allow them to use more quirky and unconventional venues that might not immediately scream 'wedding'. I think this allows room for couples to create something that is really personal to them, choosing a venue that speaks of their characters and what makes them happy.

Content creators

This one certainly comes hand in hand with the world of social media and the increasing desire to capture and share special moments. Couples are increasingly keen to document ‘behind the scenes’ content that they can post to their socials straight away. Often, this will be edited in a way that makes it engaging and perfect to share online as a showcase of the couple and their day, and the word I kept seeing in was ‘storytelling’. Particularly popular in the world of influencers, content creators might not be necessary for everyone, and it was repeatedly noted that they are not replacing photographers or videographers (whose role continues to be one of the most important for many couples!). However, for a generation of social-media savvy brides and grooms, they seem to be gaining popularity on the wedding scene!

Sustainability

Perhaps my favourite trend to read about was sustainability. This cropped up in relation to all manner of wedding-related things and this push towards eco-friendly choices can only be a good thing. From digital invitations, to sustainable wedding favours like seed packets and handmade soaps, couples are keen to ensure that their big day doesn’t have a big impact on the environment. This can also be achieved through clever planning, with floral arrangements being repurposed for use at different points in the day, and biodegradable confetti becoming an obvious choice. For couples who still like the tradition of a wedding stationery suite, there are also loads of companies that opt for recyclable and environmentally friendly materials. The options seem to be pretty endless.

My view

I’ve only explored a handful of 2025 predictions here and who knows if some unexpected trends will soar to the top spot instead. Whatever the outcome though, I strongly believe that the choices you make for your wedding should suit YOU. Don’t go trying to please everyone else or selecting something simply because it’s ‘on trend’. Your wedding day is your chance to have a day surrounded by the people and things that you love, without feeling like you have to fit a specific mould. Even if things go out of fashion a few years down the line, you’ll know you picked something that you loved in the moment, which reflected you and your partner.

Roll on the weddings of 2025!
